Enrichment

Kew East Primary School provides a range of learning enrichment opportunities for all students. To support student learning, Kew East Primary School is fortunate to have two tutors who primarily support our junior school students through targeted reading intervention using a systematic synthetic phonics approach, helping to ensure foundational skills are established before students’ progress into the senior school.

Students also have the opportunity to work with our Enrichment Teacher, who provides opportunities for curriculum extension in Numeracy and Literacy. Throughout the year, selected students will have the opportunity to participate in the Maths Olympiad, an inter-school competition specifically designed to stimulate and challenge high-potential and high-achieving students. Students are carefully selected on a range of assessment data.

In addition, our Enrichment Teacher will provide enrichment opportunities in reading and writing throughout the school year, supporting students to extend their skills, deepen their thinking and engage with learning beyond the core curriculum.

Victorian High-Ability Program

The Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP) is a Department of Education enrichment program that provides opportunities for high-ability students to engage with challenging material in either English or Mathematics. Multiple intakes will run throughout the year and will go for ten weeks. Students are selected by the Department of Education based on their NAPLAN and Victorian Curriculum Progression Point data.
